Ace Aussie (Australia) Wins His Maiden At Cork

Big Plans For Smart Maiden Winner By Australia

A step up in class is on the cards for Ace Aussie (2c Australia - Queenscliff, by Danehill Dancer) after the Jessica Harrington-trained colt won a competitive maiden at Cork.

The Zhang Yuesheng-owned bay showed great promise on debut in late June, when finishing second at the Curragh. He remained over the seven furlong trip on return and was ridden to chase the leader by Shane Foley, who asked him to quicken approaching the final furlong. Soon in front, he stayed on well under pressure to score by two and a quarter lengths.

Delighted assistant trainer Kate Harrington later commented, “He’s a gorgeous horse. He has a massive frame and whatever he does this year he’s going to be even better next year.” On future plans, she added, “He’s got entries in Royal Lodge and the Beresford, and if he comes out of this okay he’ll go to one of them, but it will be just one more run this year and then we’ll put him away for next year.”

Bred by Longfield Stud, the son of Australia was sold as a yearling for €125,000 by Manister House Stud, who offer his full-brother at the Goffs Orby Sale. Both are closely related to Listed winner and multiple Group-placed Giuseppe Garibaldi (Galileo).
