Broome brushes away opposition for Australia
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Broome (2c Australia-Sweepstake, by Acclamation) looked another high-class prospect for Australia when winning a maiden at the Galway Festival on Saturday.
Donnacha O’Brien made the running aboard the colt, bred by Epona Bloodstock and a 150,000gns yearling, and captured the extended mile event by a length and a half.
“He had a nice run the last day and was still quite green and raw again today but he has plenty of ability,” said the winning rider.
“It's not ideal making the running on a horse that green but with those small fields nobody else was going to go, so I said I'd go myself. This is a nice horse and there is plenty of improvement in him.”
Broome is clearly held in some regard and his big-race entries include the G1 Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes, the G2 Futurity and G2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.
