Broome (Australia) Wins The Group 3 Alleged Stakes at the Curragh

Broome Finishes With A Flourish In Alleged Stakes

Broome (5c Australia - Sweepstake, by Acclamation) came with a flying finish to win Saturday’s Group 3 Alleged Stakes at the Curragh; a second consecutive black-type success for the Aidan O’Brien-trained bay.

A dual Group 3 winner as a three-year-old, the son of Australia ran out an impressive winner of the Listed Devoy Stakes on his seasonal return last month and was sent off favourite for the ten furlong contest. Positioned behind the leaders by Ryan Moore, he was pushed along after the two furlong marker and ran on strongly to lead close home, scoring by half a length.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “Broome is a lovely horse. A more consistent pace would have suited him better so it was great that he was able to win.” On future plans, he added, “He'll be in line for the Tattersalls Gold Cup and Coronation Cup.”

Owned by Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, Mrs Magnier and M Matsushima, Broome was bought by MV Magnier as a yearling for 150,000gns. Bred by Epona Bloodstock, he has a two-year-old full-brother in training at Ballydoyle.
