Oodnadatta (Australia) Makes A Winning Debut At Leopardstown

Classy Leopardstown Double For Australia

Oodnadatta (2f Australia - Bewitched, by Dansili) continued a tremendous run for the Jessica Harrington stable when making a winning debut in Sunday’s Fillies Maiden at Leopardstown.

Racing over seven furlongs, the bay made all under Shane Foley and was pushed along from two furlongs out. Keeping on well inside the final furlong, she won by a length and a half comfortably from promising newcomer Minaun (Zoffany) in second.

There should be more to come from the winner, with assistant trainer Kate Harrington later commenting, “Oodnadatta is a nice filly, we've had this race earmarked for her for a while. She might go for a winners-of-one now before going for a stakes race.”

A homebred runner for Richard Scarborough and Mrs John Magnier, Oodnadatta completed the first leg of a double on the card for sire Australia.

The exciting Patrick Sarsfield (4g Australia - Ultra Appeal, by Lawman) was sent off favourite for the nine furlong finale and easily obliged, running out a five length winner under Declan McDonogh.

Placed behind Madhmoon and Sydney Opera House (Australia) on his only starts for Edward Lynam, the bay was subsequently sold to Joseph O’Brien for 230,000gns. Now owned by Mrs CC Regalado-Gonzalez, he confirmed his promise with an impressive maiden victory at the end of last season. The China Horse Club-bred son of Australia provides a nice update for his full-brother catalogued to sell at this week’s Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale.
