Coles And Hay Continue Success With Gleneagles

Firth Of Clyde (3g Gleneagles - Crysanthemum, by Danehill Dancer) gained a deserved maiden victory in fine style at Newcastle on Friday evening.

Never out of the first four on all of his previous starts, Paul and Oliver Cole’s representative was well-supported for the novice stakes over a mile. Kevin Stott held the bay up in last and began to make headway from over three furlongs out. Travelling best of the field when pressing the leader a furlong later, he was pushed to lead approaching the final furlong and stayed on well to win by four and a half lengths. The runner-up drew five and a half lengths clear of the favourite, a dual winner, in third.

Firth Of Clyde continues the success enjoyed by the Coles and owner Mrs Fitri Hay with the progeny of Gleneagles. Connections won this year's Group 2 Richmond Stakes with Royal Scotsman (Gleneagles), who was narrowly denied in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes. The Coles also previously trained Highland Chief (Gleneagles), who Hay switched Stateside and later won the Grade 1 Man O’War Stakes.

It, therefore, came as little surprise to see the partnership stretch to €170,000 for a Gleneagles colt at the Arqana October Yearling Sale this week.
