Daughter Of Australia Gains Third Group 3 Win
Shamida (4f Australia – Shamooda, by Azamour) led home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore sires in Friday’s Group 3 Give Thanks Stakes at Cork.
A dual Group 3 winner last season, the Dermot Weld-trained filly was dropping back to a mile and a half on her second start of the season and raced in touch with the leaders under Chris Hayes. The bay improved to challenge before the two furlong pole and was ridden to lead soon after. She stayed on gamely to deny Mother Nature (Justify) by half a length, with the same distance back to Lily Hart (Galileo) in third.
“She is a very brave and honest filly, and a very good one,” said assistant trainer Kris Weld. “She has plenty of entries in the autumn, we’ll see how she comes out of this race and pick something nice. She’ll be going back up to Group One level again.”
Owned and bred by the Aga Khan, the daughter of Australia holds an entry in next month’s Irish St Leger.
