Daughter Of Australia Strikes Late For Stakes Success

The progressive Goolwa (3f Australia - Pivotalia, by Pivotal) produced a career-best effort to land the Listed Beckford Stakes at Bath on Wednesday afternoon.

The Andrew Balding-trained bay gained her maiden win in May and doubled up in August, with the winning rider David Probert back aboard on Wednesday. Held up at the back of the field, she was switched right to make headway approaching the final furlong and ran on strongly to lead by half a length on the line.

Owned by Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum, the half-sister to dual Group 3 winner Onenightidreamed (Footstepsinthesand) was bred by Brian O’Neill. Their two-year-old sibling Scriptwriter (Churchill) became the mare’s latest winner last month when taking a Gowran Park maiden.

Miss Down Under (2f Australia - Pocket Of Stars, by Sea The Stars) also appears to have a bright future ahead of her after running out a stylish winner of her second start at Kempton.

Racing over a mile, the Amanda Perrett-trained bay was shaken up to lead approaching the final furlong and ran on well to score by two lengths under Neil Callan.

Bred by Sunderland Holdings, the daughter of Australia becomes the first winner out of Pocket Of Stars.
