Daughter Of Camelot Captures Irish Oaks
Coolmore sires dominated the finish to Saturday’s Irish Oaks in which Even So (3f Camelot - Breeze Hill, by Danehill) provided the Ger Lyons stable with their second Classic success of the season.
A winner of the Listed Oaks Trial last time out, the daughter of Camelot was stepping up to a mile and a half for the first time and was travelling with eye-catching ease two furlongs out. Gaining on the leader, she led inside the final furlong and was pushed out to win by two lengths under Colin Keane. The favourite Cayenne Pepper (Australia) claimed runners-up honours, as daughters of Galileo took the next three places, followed by a daughter of Maxios.
Speaking after the race, Ger Lyons said, “I'm thrilled because I love this filly. I thought she was smart. She's gone and done it so I'm delighted. I'm delighted for the owners. She's a very valuable filly now.”
Owned by Mrs John Magnier and Mrs Paul Shanahan, Even So was bred by Lynch Bages out of a half-sister to Dr Devious and to the dam of Dancing Rain. She becomes the fifth Group 1 winner by top-class racehorse Camelot.
