Expensive Rose (Australia) Wins At Carlisle

Future Looks Bright For Daughter Of Australia

Expensive Rose (2f Australia – Iveagh Gardens, by Mastercraftsman) confirmed her debut promise when running out a comfortable winner of the fillies’ novice stakes at Carlisle on Monday.

The Charlie Johnston-trained filly finished well to take second on debut last month and was sent off favourite upon stepping up to seven furlongs. Partnered by Joe Fanning on Monday, she led from two furlongs out and was pushed out to win by a length and a half, ears pricked.

“We came here expecting that result but we've still got to go and do it,” the winning trainer commented. “Joe (Fanning) said it was almost like she was first-time out when she hit the front - very green and ears pricked. She's bred to be one for later this year and into next year, but the fact she's doing this now shows she's above average. She's a nice filly going forward.”

Owned by Jaber Abdullah, Expensive Rose was bred by Mrs Noreen McManus out of Group 3 Athasi Stakes heroine Iveagh Gardens (Mastercraftsman).
