Galileo colt Gleneagles claims G2 glory
Gleneagles (2c Galileo-You’resothrilling, by Storm Cat) proved himself one of the best juveniles seen out this year when an appropriate winner of the G2 Galileo EBF Futurity Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.
The son of Galileo, a full-brother to this season’s G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Marvellous, won the G3 Tyros Stakes on his previous start and was quoted by bookmakers at 16/1 for next year’s G1 2,000 Guineas after this latest victory.
“I'm delighted with that,” trainer Aidan O’Brien told irishracing.com. “He quickened up really well but didn't do much in front. He had to move when the gap opened on the rail
“He could possibly come back here for the G1 National Stakes but he has plenty of options. He has plenty of speed. He's a brother to Marvellous and a mile won't a problem. He's able to change gears. He quickened up there and went two or three lengths up easily but then started to idle.”
