Gleneagles Colt Captures Maiden On Return
The well-related Clan Chieftain (3c Gleneagles - Pink Symphony, by Montjeu) got off the mark at the second time of asking in Friday’s ten furlong maiden at Chepstow.
Trained by Ralph Beckett for owner/breeder Mrs Fitri Hay, the full-brother to Grade 1 winner Highland Chief (Gleneagles) was well-supported on his three-year-old return. Hector Crouch settled the bay in midfield, asking him to quicken from three furlongs out and began to make headway a furlong later. Leading inside the final 110 yards, he kept on well to beat the favourite by half a length, with another four lengths back to the third horse.
Mrs Fitri Hay has enjoyed great success with Gleneagles, via the aforementioned Grade 1 winner Highland Chief, as well as Group 2 winner Royal Scotsman (Gleneagles), who finished third in the 2,000 Guineas last month.
