Gleneagles Colt Races Into Royal Ascot Picture
Talbot (2c Gleneagles - Sea Chanter, by War Front) earned himself a tilt at Royal Ascot when making a winning debut at Lingfield on Monday.
Racing over five furlongs, the Brian Meehan-trained colt chased the leaders under Oisin Murphy and was ridden approaching the two furlong marker. Racing on strongly from a furlong out, he led close home and won by a length and three quarters, going away.
Meehan was full of praise for the winner, commenting after the race, “Talbot has always been a really nice, sharp, speedy horse and a big run was expected. Provided he comes out of the race okay, he'll go to Ascot. Oisin was very complimentary of him after the race and we'll focus on either the Norfolk Stakes or Windsor Castle.”
Owned by R Sinclair and partners, Talbot was bred by Roland Alder out of Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 third Sea Chanter. He comes from the second crop of Gleneagles, who made an excellent start at stud with two Group 2 winners last season.
