Gleneagles Filly Game In Maiden Success
The Mark Johnston-trained Freyja (2f Gleneagles - Crystal Valkrie, by Danehill) battled bravely to justify short-priced favoritism in Saturday’s Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Beverley.
The chesnut filly had shown good promise on debut earlier in the month, where she was headed inside the final furlong to finish second. On her second start, she was ridden to track the leaders by Joe Fanning, making headway from two furlongs out and chased down the leading Afraid Of Nothing approaching the final furlong. Driven out, she showed a game attitude to lead close home and won by a head, as they finished six lengths clear of the third horse.
Owned by Mrs AG Kavanagh, Freyja was bred by COP Hanbury. She is a half-sister to Group 3 Classic Trial winner Above Average (High Chaparral) and Prestige Stakes winner Sent From Heaven (Footstepsinthesand), who finished a close fourth in the 1,000 Guineas.
Freyja provides a timely update for her full-brother catalogued at the Goffs Orby Sale.
