Gleneagles Colt Proves A Class Above In Listed Sprint
Sunday saw Mill Stream (3c Gleneagles - Swirral Edge, by Hellvelyn) gain his first Stakes success when running out an impressive winner of the Listed Prix Moonlight Cloud at Deauville.
Trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam for PW Harris, the son of Gleneagles made a winning debut as a juvenile and was last seen being beaten a whisker in a valuable sprint at Newmarket. Sent off favourite on his first trip to France, the highly-rated colt tracked the leaders in the early stages and quickened to lead a furlong and a half from home. Soon clear, he was never challenged and went on to score by three and a half lengths under Marco Ghiani.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “We felt it was time to leave handicap company and this was the last sprint race for three-year-olds. We were confident he would go on this ground and today he’s shown what we believed he was. We’ll have a go at a group two or three next time.”
Mill Stream was bred by Redpender Stud, who sold the son of Gleneagles as a yearling for 350,000gns.
