Freville (Gleneagles) wins the Gr.3 Prix D Aumale at ParisLongchamp

Group Juvenile Winner For In-Form Gleneagles

The highly-regarded Freville (2f Gleneagles - Freauville, by Le Havre) continued a fantastic run for Gleneagles when taking the Group 3 Prix d’Aumale at Longchamp on Thursday.

The Christopher Head-trained filly finished second to subsequent Group 2 winner Les Pavots (No Nay Never) on debut and went on to win a conditions race in good style over a mile. Partnered by regular rider Aurelien Lemaitre on Thursday, she was settled towards the back of the field in the early stages and was switched out to challenge approaching the two furlong marker. Running on well, she produced an impressive turn of foot inside the final furlong to lead close home, beating Group 2 placed Irish raider Kalispera (Ten Sovereigns) by a neck on the line.

Freville is evidently held in high regard by connections, given that she holds an entry in next month’s Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac; a race her trainer won last year with Blue Rose Cen (Churchill). Owned by Gerard Augustin-Normand, Freville is the first foal bred by Franklin Finance out of the unraced mare Freauville.

Freville completed a quickfire Group double on the card for Coolmore sires, with smart juvenile Zabiari (Wootton Bassett) capturing the preceding Group 3. The progressive bay also continues a terrific run for her sire Gleneagles, who was responsible for three Group winners in August.
