Gutsy Maiden Winner Continues Outstanding Run For Gleneagles
The promising Eaglefield (3g Gleneagles - Bratislava, by Dr Fong) prevailed in a thrilling finish to Sunday’s seven furlong maiden at Leopardstown.
The Jim Bolger-trained bay finished second on debut just four days earlier and was sent off favourite to go one better. Racing in second under Kevin Manning, he quickened clear with the straight and led entering the final furlong. He ran on well as two fast-finishing rivals did their best to run him down, but Eaglefield dug deep to win by a neck on the line.
Owned by YH Yue, Eaglefield was bought by Avenue Bloodstock and Vincent Tam as a yearling for €85,000. The half-brother to two Stakes performers was bred by John Grogan and continues the red-hot form of his sire Gleneagles, who has been responsible for three Stakes winners in May so far.
