Impressive Juveniles Complete Double For Australia
Swan Bay (2c Australia - Similu, by Danehill Dancer) completed the first leg of an impressive two-year-old double for Australia at Galway when drawing clear to win his second start on Tuesday.
Beaten just a neck on debut last month, Joseph O’Brien’s charge was sent off favourite for the extended mile maiden and was ridden to track the leader by Shane Crosse. Pushed along to lead after the two furlong marker, he was ridden clear to win by five lengths.
Connections expect Swan Bay to improve with time, with assistant trainer Brendan Powell saying, “Swan Bay is still a bit green and is still a big baby. He's going to be a three-year-old but I loved the way he pulled away in the end. He stays well too and should have a nice future.”
Bought by his trainer for Lloyd Williams as a yearling for 110,000gns, Swan Bay was bred by Lynchbages, Edgeridge and Glenvale Stud.
Tranquil Lady (2f Australia - Repose, by Quiet American) completed a double for Shane Crosse and the Joseph O’Brien stable when landing the seven furlong fillies maiden in fine style.
Racing in midfield for much of the way, the Teme Valley Racing-owned chesnut improved into third from two furlongs out and kept on well to lead inside the final furlong. Running on well, she won by three and a quarter lengths on the line.
Bred by Tinnakill Bloodstock, the daughter of Australia is a half-sister to connection’s Grade 1 winner State Of Rest (Starspangledbanner).
