L’Aigle Becomes The Latest Winner By In-Form Gleneagles

A step up in trip saw the Marcus Nigge-trained L’Aigle (2c Gleneagles - Four Eleven, by Arch) get off the mark in the Prix de L’Artois at Compiegne on Thursday.

The bay was running over nine furlongs for the first time, having previously twice finished fourth over shorter distances at Longchamp. Cristian Demuro positioned him towards the back of the field, asking him to quicken as they turned for home and drew upsides the leader Green Spirit at the two furlong pole. Pushed out, L’Aigle prevailed by a neck on the line as the pair drew two and a half lengths clear of the third.

A €135,000 foal buy, L’Aigle is owned by Lutz Bongen and Gerard Augustin-Normand and was bred by Knockainey Stud. His dam is a half-sister to Group 3 winner and Group 1 third Summertime Legacy, herself the dam of four Stakes horses.
