More To Come From Australia’s Latest Maiden Winner
A step up in trip proved just the trick for Pearl Of Australia (Australia - Golden Pearl, by Oasis Dream) as he got off the mark in Monday’s ten furlong maiden at Roscommon.
Noel Meade’s charge had shown promise over shorter trips, including when finishing fourth to subsequent Group 3 winner Cairo last season. Making all under Leigh Roche at Roscommon, he was ridden when challenged after the two furlong pole and kept on well to win by half a length.
“I thought he was a pretty decent horse,” Noel Meade said after the race. “Hopefully it's onwards and upwards now. He's by Australia but he's related to a good miler and that's what had sort of caught me out a bit with him. I'd say he'd even go a mile-and-a-half.”
Pearl Of Australia is owned by the Eagles Partnership and was bred by Michael Enright.
