Velocidad (Gleneagles) Makes A Winning Debut At Fairyhouse

O’Brien Unveils Classy Gleneagles Juvenile

Friday saw the Joseph O’Brien-trained Velocidad (2f Gleneagles - Astrantia, by Dansili) make a perfect start to her career over six furlongs at Fairyhouse.

Declan McDonogh rode the newcomer to chase the leaders, pushing her to lead approaching the final furlong and drove her out to win by half a length on the line.

Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Brendan Powell said, “We liked her at home. She had been away for a gallop and galloped nicely. She looks a nice filly going forward and she has a great temperament.”

Owned by Mrs Anne Marie O’Brien, Velocidad was bred by Bugley Stud and DB Clark out of an own-sister to Strategic Prince. She continues a terrific start to the season for Gleneagles, who recently sired three Group/Stakes winners in the space of a week.
