Galashiels (Australia) Wins The Listed Grand Prix De Clairefontaine

Progressive Australia Colt Adds Stakes Success To Fine Record

Galashiels (3c Australia - Glenmayne, by Duke Of Marmalade) confirmed himself a smart stayer on Sunday when gaining a first Stakes success in the Listed Grand Prix de Clairefontaine.

Trained by Andre Fabre for Godolphin, the son of Australia made a winning debut in April and following a creditable second next time out, landed a conditions race at Saint-Cloud last month. Sent off second favourite on his first start in Stakes company, he chased the leaders under Mickael Barzalona, who asked his mount to quicken from three furlongs out. Ridden after the two furlong marker, he stayed on well to lead inside the final furlong and was driven out to beat the favourite by half a length.

Galashiels may now take another step up in class to add to his progressive record, which is three from four. Bought as a yearling for 115,000gns, the son of Australia was bred by Stonethorn Farms out of a half-sister to Millisle (Starspangledbanner).
