Progressive Gleneagles Filly Battles For Stakes Success
The progressive Freyja (3f Gleneagles - Crystal Valkyrie, by Danehill) rallied bravely to gain an important black-type success in Saturday’s Listed James Seymour Stakes at Newmarket.
A dual winner at two, the Mark Johnston-trained filly came into the ten furlong contest with two wins from her last three starts, most recently in a Class 2 contest. Ben Curtis rode her to chase the leader, asking her to quicken approaching two furlongs out and asserted a furlong later. Air Pilot produced a strong challenge, but the Gleneagles filly refused to admit defeat, digging deep to deny her rival by a neck.
Owned by Mrs Antoinette Kavanagh, Freyja was bred by COP Hanbury and becomes the fourth Stakes performer out of the mare Crystal Valkyrie. She also becomes an eighth individual Stakes winner from the first crop of Gleneagles.
