Promising Gleneagles Filly Wins Maiden In Good Style
The future looks bright for La Vita Nova (3f Gleneagles – Burke’s Rock, by Cape Cross) after the Jessica Harrington-trained filly made her second start a winning one at Limerick on Sunday.
The William Crager-owned bay shaped with promise last month when finishing fourth at Navan and reopposed some of those rivals in Sunday’s fillies’ maiden. Stepping up to a mile and three furlongs, she raced prominently under Ronan Whelan and improved to challenge after the two furlong pole. Soon in front, she kept on well to score by three parts of a length, with another two lengths back to the third.
“La Vita Nova loved the ground and was still a bit green when she hit the front,” Whelan said after the race. “She's really stepped forward from her first run and is a lovely filly. I think those better races where they go along might suit her.”
Bred by George Kent, the daughter of Gleneagles was bought by Jane Buchanan as a yearling for €150,000.
