Promising Son Of Gleneagles Off The Mark At Ascot
Cadmus (3g Gleneagles - Allegrezza, by Sir Percy) took another step forward to win Friday’s Novice Stakes over a mile and a half at Ascot.
Fourth on debut in June, Andrew Balding’s charge finished a promising second last month to El Habeeb, who went on to win a Listed race on Saturday’s card. Sent off second favourite on his third start, Cadmus was positioned in midfield by William Buick and was shaken up to make headway from over two furlongs out. Ridden to lead a furlong later, he kept on well to deny the favourite by half a length, with another three and a quarter lengths back to the third.
Bred by Roundhill Stud and JS Investments, Cadmus’s progression bodes well for his two-year-old half-brother by Caravaggio.
