Smart Fillies Continue Terrific Season For Gleneagles

The well-bred Jumbly (2f Gleneagles - Thistle Bird, by Selkirk) completed the first leg of a Gleneagles double at Leicester on Wednesday when making a winning debut in the six furlong fillies’ maiden.

Well-supported in the market, the Roger Charlton-trained bay tracked the leaders under Trevor Whelan and was pushed along passing the two furlong marker. Switched right to find a gap approaching the final furlong, she ran on well to lead inside the final furlong and won by a length on the line.

There should be more to come from Emily Rothschild’s homebred winner, whose dam Thistle Bird captured the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes.

Later on the card, the Paul and Oliver Cole-trained Subtle Beauty (3f Gleneagles - Mirage, by Oasis Dream) gained a deserved success in the seven furlong maiden.

Never out of the first four on her previous starts, Mrs Fitry Hay’s homebred was sent off favourite under Callum Shepherd and tracked the leader for much of the way. Pushed along to lead approaching the final furlong, she ran on well to win by two lengths.
