Mare Australis (Australia) Wins The Group 2 Grand Prix De Chantilly at Chantilly

Son Of Australia Back To Best In Chantilly Group 2

Group 1 victor Mare Australis (5c Australia - Miramare, by Rainbow Quest) returned to winning ways in Sunday’s Group 2 Grand Prix de Chantilly.

Andre Fabre’s progressive charge took the Prix Ganay last season before a set back and was last seen finishing fourth in this year’s renewal won by State Of Rest (Starspangledbanner). Stepping up to a mile and a half at Chantilly, the son of Australia raced prominently throughout under Olivier Peslier and asserted two furlongs from home. A length in front entering the final furlong, he was ridden out to win by two lengths.

Bred by Stall Ullman and raced by them as Gestut Schlenderhan, Mare Australis is the best performer out of the Stakes-placed Miramare. One of 12 Stakes winners by Australia in 2021, he continues his sire’s impressive start to the current season, led by Ocean Road’s Grade 1 success in the Gamely Stakes.
