Son Of Australia Gains Second Stakes Success

Sunday saw Galashiels (5g Australia – Glenmayne, by Duke Of Marmalade) draw clear to his second Listed success in the Prix Lord Seymour at Longchamp.

The Andre Fabre-trained chesnut gained his first Stakes success as a three-year-old and returned to the mile and a half trip of that victory on Sunday. Settled at the back of the field by Mickael Barzalona, he was asked to quicken upon turning for home and ran on well to lead entering the final furlong. He kept on well to win by a comfortable two lengths, with another two lengths back to Group 2 winner Rue Boissonade in third.

Representing winning owner Godolphin, Louise later said, “When he got the split, he quickened very nicely. He was a good three-year-old, but had some problems at four and we are happy we gave him all the time he needed to be back to his best. The Group 3 Prix d’Hedouville is a logical step, but we will discuss this with Mr Fabre. There is also the possibility of running him over a longer trip.”

The now five-time winner was bought by Stroud Coleman as a yearling for 115,000gns. The son of Australia was bred by Stonethorn Stud Farms out of a half-sister to Group 1 heroine Millisle (Starspangledbanner).
