Son Of Australia Lands Classy Contest On Return
Oman (3g Australia - Awohaam, by Iffraaj) gained a deserved maiden victory when making a winning seasonal return at Salisbury on Sunday.
Placed on three occasions as a two-year-old, the Ralph Beckett-trained chesnut was sent off favourite for the British EBF/AJN Steelstock Maiden Stakes over a mile and a half. He made all under Hector Crouch and was pushed along approaching three furlongs out, from which he kept on well to win by a length and a quarter, the field strung out behind him.
A step up in class may now be on the cards for Oman, with Sunday’s contest boasting an honour roll of talented performers, including Estimate.
Owned by Y Nasib, the son of Australia was bought by Richard Frisby as a yearling for 140,000gns from Churchtown House Stud, who bred him in partnership with Grousebridge and Carhue. The breeders retained his two-year-old half-brother Castle Star (Starspangledbanner), who lost his maiden tag in Monday's Listed First Flier Stakes for Fozzy Stack.
