Son Of Australia Proves Untouchable In Group 1 Prix Ganay

Mare Australis (4c Australia - Miramare, by Rainbow Quest) stamped his class when making all to win Sunday’s Group 1 Prix Ganay at Longchamp.

Breaking from the inside stall under Pierre-Charles Boudot, the chesnut was asked to quicken from two furlongs out and was ridden as several produced challenges. Cementing his advantage in the final furlong, he won by a length and three quarters from Group 2 winner Gold Trip, with the same distance back to Mogul (Galileo) in third.

Andre Fabre later identified the Arc as his main aim for Mare Australis, saying, “He'll be a better horse in the autumn and I always thought he was a horse for the Arc. He's just as good over both distances.”

Successful on his sole start at two, Mare Australis won a Listed contest and was second in a Group 2 as a three-year-old and was runner-up in another Group 2 on return last month.

Owned by Gestut Schlenderhan and bred by Stall Ullman, the colt becomes a third top-flight winner by Australia, following Galileo Chrome and Order of Australia’s heroics in 2020. 2021 looks set to be another stellar year for the top-class son of Galileo, who is responsible for 13 Group winners in total, and another four Listed winners.
