Son Of Australia Stays On Strongly To Maiden Victory
Magellan Strait (3g Australia - Reine De Coeur, by Montjeu) took a significant step forward on his second start to lead home a 1-2 for Joseph O’Brien at Limerick on Thursday.
The son of Australia was one of 11 to line up for the mile and a half maiden and was ridden prominently by Mikey Sheehy. Switched left to challenge two furlongs from home, he ran on strongly approaching the final furlong and kept on to lead on the line. The stablemates drew three and a half lengths clear of the third.
The future looks bright for Magellan Strait, as confirmed by Sheehy’s post-race comments. “He really rallied for me and hit the line strong,” the winning rider said. “There is plenty of improvement still to come and I think he is a nice horse to look forward to.”
Owned by Ray Grehan and bred by Whitefrair Stud, Magellan Strait is a half-brother to talented dual-purpose performer Lagostovegas (Footstepsinthesand) and the highly-rated Baby Zeus (Footstepsinthesand).
