Son Of Gleneagles Proves A Class Above At Cork

Expensive breeze-up purchase Alessandro Algardi (3g Gleneagles - Sharapova, by Elusive Quality) showed his class when running out an impressive winner of Wednesday’s mile maiden at Cork.

A close fourth on debut at the Curragh last month, the Joseph O’Brien-trained bay was sent off a short-priced favourite at Cork, where he raced close to the pace under Shane Crosse. Travelling well with two furlongs left to race, he soon led and was pushed out to score by four lengths.

Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Brendan Powell said, “It was a nice performance. He is a big strong horse, has learned a lot from his first run and he has a good mind. Joseph always liked him.”

Owned by Mrs CC Regalado-Gonzalez, Alessandro Algardi was sold for €240,000 at the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale from Johnny Hassett of the Bloodstock Connection. The son of Gleneagles was bred by Matthew Duffy and is a half-brother to Group 2 runner-up Travel Datuk (Holy Roman Emperor).
