Stakes Aim For Gleneagles’ Impressive Maiden Winner
Gleneagles’ impressive start at stud continued on Friday, when newcomer Ultra Violet (2f Gleneagles - Rive Gauche, by Fastnet Rock) ran out an eight length winner of the six furlong maiden at Newmarket.
Adding to the impressive nature of her success was overcoming a slow start, as she soon joined the back of the field and was asked to quicken two furlongs out by Kieran Shoemark. Running home strongly, she lead inside the final furlong and extended her advantage as Game And Set (Zoffany) claimed runners-up honours.
Winning trainer Ed Vaughan commented after the race, “She's not the biggest filly and she's handled the track well, and she's a hearty lady, so I can't see why we wouldn't look at the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes.”
Ultra Violet is owned by Sheikh Hamed Dalmook Al Maktoum and was bought by Rabbah Bloodstock as a yearling for 55,000gns. Bred by Christopher Humber, she is the first foal out of the mare, a winning half-sister to multiple Stakes winner Ryan and Group 3 performer Highland Daughter.
Gleneagles commands €30,000 at Coolmore Stud this season.
