Well Regarded Son Of Australia Delivers On Debut
Canberra Legend (3c Australia - Rocana, by Fastnet Rock) emerged as a useful prospect when striding clear to win the Novice Stakes over a mile at Newcastle.
The James Ferguson-trained colt had evidently impressed at home, as he holds an Epsom Derby entry, and was sent off favourite to make a winning debut on Monday. Racing in midfield under Daniel Muscutt, he made headway from three furlongs out and led approaching the final furlong. Running on strongly when asked, he won by a comfortable three and a half lengths, with another three lengths back to the third.
Owned by KK Ho, Canberra Legend was bought by Avenue Bloodstock as a yearling for 350,000gns, having been pinhooked as a foal for 125,000gns. Bred by Ringfort Stud and Paul Hancock, the son of Australia is a half-brother to Group 3 Chester Case victor Youth Spirit (Camelot).
