It was a perfect start to his career for the Graham Motion trained Coast Highway (2c Corniche x Lemoncita, by Lemon Drop Kid) on Friday at Colonial Downs when he became his sire’s second debut winner in 24 hours. The 5 ½ furlong turf race saw Coast Highway break from a mid-gate position and comfortably track a pressured leader down the backstretch. Sticking to an inside path around the turn, Coast Highway attacked entering the stretch to make a run for the lead. In the final furlong, he had clear sailing to win by 2 ¾ lengths with only two horses within five lengths of him at the end. Coast Highway was an OBS April purchase for Amerman Racing from Two Oaks Equine. It was the New Horizon Farm-bred’s second time through the ring after selling last September. Coast Highway is the first winner out of the winning mare Lemoncita. That mare out of the stakes placed Shared Heart is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Chewing Gum and Grade 3-placed Sinfiltre.
