It was a 30th winner for Golden Pal when D'Yquem (2f Golden Pal x Bordeaux Belle, by Quality Road) won a Santa Anita Maiden Special Weight by 2 ¼ lengths. Looking for her first win after a pair of third place finishes, D'Yquem went off as the race favorite in the one-mile turf race and showed why as soon as the gates opened. Bolting to the lead, she took up a rail position and controlled the pace throughout the run. Another runner stayed close behind until they hit the far turn. At that point, D'Yquem was urged home by Jamie Spencer and easily won by 2 ¼ lengths with the third placed horse five lengths behind her. D'Yquem is trained by Michael McCarthy for Colbart Stables and Richard Colvin and has hit the board in all three of her starts. The Curt Leake and Elm Tree Farm-bred is the second runner for Bordeaux Belle, who is a half-sister to Mischiefful and two other winners out of the stakes winning Shanon Nicole. A multiple stakes winning mare who also placed in a Grade 3 and two other stakes, Shanon Nicole is a half-sister to the 21-time winner Clandestina, who was also stakes placed. This was the second winner of the day and third winner overall for Golden Pal in the last 24 hours with 30 winners from his first crop putting him nine above any other North American stallion by juvenile winners in 2026.
