It was a second winner of the day for Golden Pal on Wednesday when Ez Pal (2g Golden Pal x Gun Girl, by Gun Runner) broke his maiden at Keeneland. Racing over six furlongs on the dirt as the favorite in his second start for Wesley Ward, the juvenile showed the trademark Ward speed when shooting out of the gate to take the lead. He was never challenged in his run, opening multiple lengths and ultimately winning by four lengths at the end. Racing for Breeze Easy, James Cestaro, U Racing Stables, and Sonoma Sires, the Marc William Gunderson-bred was a $100,000 2-year-old purchase in March. He is the first foal out of a half-sister to 11-time winner Little Trouble with their dam a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Nicole H. Ez Pal’s dam is closely related to Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Gun Rong, who is by Gun Runner and out of Nicole H. This family also includes Grade 2 winner Something Extra. Ez Pal is the 27th winner of the year for Golden Pal, who has a full dozen winners on number 2 ranked Jack Christopher and has 10 winners more than the second ranked North American sire by juvenile winners – with that one also a son of Uncle Mo.
