Golden Pal’s lead as North America’s leading juvenile sire grew on Wednesday as Ocala Gold (2g Golden Pal x First Romance, by Dynaformer) became his 26th winner to put him nearly 10 winners ahead of the next stallion. Making his second career start in the one-mile turf race at Delaware Park, Ocala Gold was keen to take the lead and went straight to the front from the gate. Once Jaime Rodriguez got his mount to settle, Ocala Gold was happy to set a slightly slower pace down the backstretch with everyone giving him over a length of breathing room. When Rodriguez asked him to pick up the pace in the stretch, Ocala Gold easily pulled away to win by 2 ½ lengths. Trained by Mark Shuman for Hunt Lane Racing, the juvenile was bred in Kentucky by Susan Casner. He is out of the stakes placed Dynaformer mare First Romance, who is now the dam of four winners from four to race with two of those by Uncle Mo sons. First Romance is one of three stakes performers out of Leh She Run, whose runners are led by the Grade 2 winning O’Prado Again. Her daughters have also produced Grade 3 winner Fear the Cowboy and stakes winner Marvelous Maude among others. This family also includes Grade 1 winner First Samurai and Grade 3 winners Sky Blue Pink, Scarlett Sky, and My Impression among others. Golden Pal leads all North American sires by earnings, winners, and stakes performers while also leading freshmen by stakes winners and graded stakes winners.
