It was a Breeders’ Cup Friday winner for two-time Breeders’ Cup winner Golden Pal when Maid of Steel (2f Golden Pal x Withyourpermission, by Take Charge Indy) broke her maiden at Horseshoe Indianapolis in impressive style with an 18 ½-length victory. The one-mile dirt race was Maid of Steel’s from the start with the Aaron West trainee going straight to the front as the favorite. She charged out of the gate to take a clear lead and never looked back. Steadily building her margin with every stride, by the time she entered the final furlong she was over nine lengths ahead and happily extended that to 18 ½ length win by the time they hit the wire. Showing her dominance, the third placed runner was 26 ¼ lengths adrift of Maid of Steel at the line. This was the fourth start for Maid of Steel who races for Terry Stephens. The Mr. and Mrs. Craig Minten-bred is out of Withyourpermission, who now has three winners from three to race. That Take Charge Indy daughter is a half-sister to the Grade 2-placed Majestic Slew and the Grade 3-placed Awesome Saturday. In all, there are 17 stakes performers under her first three dams. Withyourpermission had a Golden Pal filly last year as well. Leading freshmen sires in nearly every category with 29 winners, Golden Pal also leads all North American sires by number of winners and is tied with Justify at the top by number of stakes performers at nine.
