It was a sixth winner for two-time Breeders’ Cup winner Golden Pal on Saturday when Mr. Gerson (2c Golden Pal x Peru, by Motivator) won a Horseshoe Indianapolis Maiden Special Weight by an easy 6 ¾ lengths. Racing on the turf over five furlongs, Mr. Gerson was among the first runners out of the gate in the five furlong race and he immediately tore away from the field. Opening over five lengths on the field in a :20.86 first quarter, Mr. Gerson was in a zip code all his own coming into the stretch. A few horses were dueling behind him, but they had no chance to catch him as Mr. Gerson found another gear to fly away while eased down. Placed in a Keeneland Maiden Special Weight on debut, Mr. Gerson is owned and trained by Israel Acevedo. Bred by Nursery Place, Donaldson, and Broadbent, the colt is out of the multiple stakes placed Peru. That Motivator mare has produced two winners from three runners now and herself was an eight-time winner in the U.S. She is a granddaughter of the champion mare Waya, who turned into an excellent broodmare with her descendants including Japanese champion Belshazzar and Hong Kong champion Premiere among others. Golden Pal leads all freshmen by winners with six and has a generation leading two stakes performers as well. Both numbers also lead the 2-year-old table overall against all North American stallions.
