Jack Christopher registered his 15th winner on Wednesday when Laflordelacanela (2f Jack Chirstopher x Secret Garden, by Flanders Fields) won a Maiden Special Weight in her third start. Third at Penn National on debut, she returned to that track for this five furlong dirt race and went off as the race favorite. She was rated early by jockey Angel Cruz while sitting just a length off the leader and ready to run as soon as she got the cue. That cue came in the turn when Laflordelacanela slipped through the rail and was in front and pulling away from the field in only a matter of strides. Opening up five lengths on the field going into the final furlong, she kept pulling away to win by seven lengths. Bred by Clearsky Farms, Laflordelacanela is trained by Tim Kreiser for Joseph Besecker and has finished in the top three in two of her three starts. The filly is a half-sister to Grade 1-placed Sequist and two other winners out of Group 1 winner Secret Garden. This is also the extended family of champion Bernardini and Grade 1 winners Cara Rafaela and Love and Pride. Jack Christopher is second behind only Golden Pal by runners on the first-crop sire list and sits fifth among all North American sired by juvenile winners in 2026.
