Coolmore
The Coolmore partners, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, have purchased an interest in Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Nysos and will race him in partnership with the Baoma Corporation through the 2026 racing season before he retires to stand at Ashford Stud. By Nyquist and out of the $2,000,000 multiple stakes-producing mare Zetta Z, Nysos was bred in Kentucky by Susie Atkins. One of the most exciting dirt horses of his generation, Nysos has developed a reputation as a dominant and electrifying performer on the racetrack. The Bob Baffert-trained superstar burst onto the scene as a 2-year-old with a dazzling 10 ½-length maiden victory at Santa Anita earning him a TDN Rising Star before following up with an emphatic 8 ½-length triumph in the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes. His dominance continued at three when he captured the Grade 3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes by 7 ½ lengths, establishing himself as one of the leading 3-year-olds in the country. Following that victory, Nysos suffered a minor setback which interrupted his campaign and ultimately kept him off the Triple Crown trail. Nysos returned as a 4-year-old and was beaten a neck in the Grade 1 Churchill Downs Stakes after nearly 15 months off. He would remain unbeaten for the remainder of his 4-year-old season, recording victories in a Grade 3 and two Grade 2 events before reaching the pinnacle of his career with a courageous victory in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. In a thrilling stretch duel, he fought off future Coolmore America stallion prospect Citizen Bull by a head, with multiple Grade 1 winner Chancer McPatrick finishing third. Now five, Nysos opened his current campaign with a tremendous performance against Japanese superstar Forever Young in the Grade 1 Saudi Cup, finishing a gallant second after a memorable battle that Bob Baffert famously described as “King Kong versus Godzilla.” Nysos then returned to the United States and further enhanced his reputation with a commanding victory in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap (Met Mile) at Saratoga, defeating a top-class field to secure one of the most prestigious races for older dirt horses in North America. With ten career starts to date, Nysos has never finished outside the first two, compiling a record of eight wins and two seconds while earning more than $5 million in prize money. Susan Chu said: “Nysos represents a true milestone for Charles and me. He means far more to us than exceptional racing success. Through him, we have learned patience and perseverance, and we are deeply grateful to Bob Baffert for developing him into one of our outstanding racing stars and guiding him throughout his remarkable career. We are equally delighted that Coolmore, one of the most respected and successful stallion operations in the world, will manage the next chapter of Nysos’s journey. He will have every opportunity to make a significant impact as a stallion, and we are committed to supporting him with our very best stakes-winning mares. We look forward to watching his legacy continue for generations to come.” Following his win in the Grade 1 Met Mile, Bob Baffert said: “What a talented horse. I always thought he’s one of the best older horses in training and today he showed it.” Nysos will continue racing through the 2026 Breeders’ Cup before retiring to Ashford Stud, where he will become an exciting addition to the farm’s elite stallion roster.
