Drumbeat (2c Wootton Bassett - Cloth Of Cloud, by Captain Al) continued his progress when capturing the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud in fine style on Sunday. The Ballydoyle-trained colt had got off the mark on his third start at Gowran Park last month and followed up a third in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes to Noble Exhibit with a five-and-a-half-length win in the Group 3 Zetland Stakes at Newmarket earlier this month. Ridden by Ryan Moore, Drumbeat was in touch and made smooth headway from two furlongs out, leading inside the final furlong to defeat stablemate Shakespeare by two lengths. Aidan O’Brien said: “He’s a lovely horse, handled the ground and got the trip well. He probably learned plenty today which was great, so we couldn't be happier. He’s a lovely horse to think about for next year.” Moore added: “He showed a lot of quality and is a very straightforward horse. He had the pace to go and take the gap and he quickened up well.” Drumbeat was bred by Barronstown Stud.
