Florida Bay (2c Mehmas - Ripponette, by Le Havre) bounced back to land a first black-type win with a front-running success in the Group 3 Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday. The Aidan O’Brien-trained juvenile registered his first win on his second start at Fairyhouse early last month and then finished a respectable fourth in the Listed Pat Smullen Stakes at Naas this month. Ridden by Wayne Lordan, Florida Bay made all and was pushed along two furlongs out before going clear over a furlong out. The pair had a reduced lead inside the final 110 yards but still won by a length and a quarter. In third was Nail House (by No Nay Never). O’Brien said: “Very happy. The last day, they went too fast. They got ganged up and they went too hard. Wayne gave him a good ride. He let him bowl along and he won nicely. “He’s not slow. Even a mile could be far enough for him. He could be a horse for the Futurity.” Florida Bay was bred by Kennedy, Wall and Nwc Bloodstock.
