Giant Sequoia (2c Frankel - Pink Dogwood, by Camelot) continued his progress to land a first Group win in the Group 2 Coolmore Stud City Of Troy Tom Cooper Irish EBF Futurity Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. The Ballydoyle-trained colt had got off the mark at the second attempt over course and distance in June and he took the step up to Group company in his stride with a battling victory over stablemate Florida Bay. Ridden by Wayne Lordan, the son of Frankel was positioned prominently and moved into second spot with two furlongs left to run. The colt was ridden a furlong out and took up the lead inside the final 110 yards to win by half a length. In third was Green Dreamer (by Churchill). Aidan O’Brien said, "He's a lovely horse. I'm delighted with him. He's still a baby and he's still learning. He learned a lot today because there was a proper pace on. “The other horse was leaning on top of him early so he did well to keep his position. He had to stay in there earlier than he wanted. I'd say he's a fair horse. I imagine he might come back for the National Stakes here." Giant Sequoia was bred by Resolute Bloodstock.
