Sun Goddess (2f Sioux Nation - Etoile Bleu, by Starspangledbanner) gained a first Pattern-race win with victory in the Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. The Ballydoyle-trained filly was making a quick reappearance having finished second in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot the week before. Before that effort she had landed a Curragh maiden by five lengths on her second start. Ridden by Ryan Moore, Sun Goddess was positioned prominently and she took up the lead a furlong out after being pushed along. She was pushed out to win comfortably from Green Empress (by Saxon Warrior), with Beibhinn (by No Nay Never) in third. Aidan O’Brien said: “We were running her back quickly, so we didn’t really know. She’s a lovely filly and we’ll give her a bit of time now. “She just got hung up in the pace a little bit [at Ascot]. Ryan said he had to fight early and the winner was locked up out the back and just came when the race was over. That’s the way you know. “She’s very classy. A great traveller. She’s still a baby. I think the Moyglare would be suitable. I think she’s going to stay and will be comfortable enough going up to seven [furlongs]. “She seemed to be well after Ascot. The race was there this weekend and it’s beautiful ground. All the things suited.” Sun Goddess was bred by Owenstown Bloodstock Ltd.
