Albany County (2c Camelot - Many Colours, by Green Desert) landed his first win with a comfortable score at Gowran Park on Saturday. The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt finished second to subsequent Group 1 Golden Fleece Stakes winner Darkness Falls (by Camelot) at the Curragh on his second start, having placed a close-up fourth on his debut at that track just 13 days before. Ridden by Wayne Lordan, the son of Camelot settled behind the leader in the early stages of the race before being pushed along to lead two furlongs out. Albany County kept on well to win by three-quarters of a length, while in third was A I Nation (by Sioux Nation). Albany County was following in the footsteps of this year’s Epsom Derby hero Christmas Day (by Camelot), who won this race 12 months ago. Triple Group 1-winning miler Circus Maximus (by Galileo) also landed the contest in 2018 before his top-level exploits. Stable representative Chris Armstrong said: "He had two nice runs coming here. He was still very babyish. The run around here, turning track, and coming down hill will be good experience for him. He's a horse you'll probably see the best of once he goes up in trip on a big galloping track. “We'll probably get one more run into him as there are a couple of Group races coming up. He'll be a lovely middle-distance horse for next year." A half-brother to 1,000 Guineas winner Mother Earth and Group 2 winner Ocean Jewel (by Sioux Nation), Albany County was bred by Grenane House Stud.
