Isaac Newton (3c Camelot - Etive, by Elusive Quality) stepped up to record a first Group win in the Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday. The Ballydoyle-trained colt had won the Listed Hill Of Tara Stakes at Navan in June and returned to winning ways with a length-and-a-quarter score under Ryan Moore. Stepping down in trip, Isaac Newton was positioned prominently behind the clear leader and was asked to clear from a furlong out, running on well to lead inside the final 110 yards and win readily. Aidan O'Brien said: "It's a good thing he’s a miler. He's unusual for a Montjeu. That's what he was showing us all the time and we weren't believing it. If you see how he goes through a race, he canters through a race. He’s fast. I'd say he'd even come back shorter if we wanted him but I'd say he's a miler. He'll come back here for the Boomerang." Isaac Newton was bred by Camas Park, Lynch Bages and Summerhill.
