Queenstown (6g Galileo - Where, by Danehill Dancer) gained a deserved first Group 1 when holding off all his challengers in the Prix Royal-Oak at Saint-Cloud on Sunday. The Ballydoyle-trained son of Galileo has mixed it with the very best this year, opening his account this term with success in the Group 3 St Leger Trial at the Curragh in August and placing in three Group 1s on his next starts. Just eight days before his biggest win, Queenstown had finished a close-up second in the Group 1 British Champions Long Distance Cup. Ridden by Ryan Moore, Queenstown was positioned prominently and took up the lead after two furlongs. He was asked for his effort over three furlongs out and kept on strongly to win by three-quarters of a length at the line. Aidan O’Brien said: "It’s not normal what he did. He was off [the bridle], but he just kept galloping, he kept going, so he’s an incredible horse really. He didn’t surrender, he just kept going. “He's a brave horse and Ryan was very strong on him, he gave him a brilliant ride." A Coolmore homebred, Queenstown became the 105th individual Group/Grade 1 winner for the late Galileo.
