Queenstown (6g Galileo - Where, by Danehill Dancer) landed his first Group-race success with a clear-cut win in the Group 3 Irish St Leger Trial at the Curragh on Saturday. The Coolmore homebred landed his maiden at the Curragh as a three-year-old and has since run well in black-type company, including when second to Kyprios in the Group 3 Levmoss Stakes at Leopardstown the following year. The six-year-old had also been Group 1-placed in the Prix du Cadran and Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp and Saint-Cloud last autumn. Ridden by Wayne Lordan, the son of Galileo was pestered for the lead early on and settled in second after two furlongs. He soon went clear with another runner and took up the lead to go clear inside the final furlong to win by four and a half lengths. In third was Leinster (by Camelot). Aidan O’Brien said: "He was a long time off. Eamon and Shane did an incredible job to get this horse back. John and Jack and everyone. Aine, Simon, Olaigh; a big team to get him back. He had an injury at the end of last year and it was incredible that he came back. “He'll go for the two races he was placed in last year - the Cadran and the French Leger. It's great because he’s a gelding and they just get better and better. He was only ready to start today. Wayne gave him a lovely ride."
