A filly by the red-hot Sioux Nation starred at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale on Wednesday when selling to Avenue Bloodstock, Emeraldway and Parkland for 185,000gns. Consigned by Manister House Stud, the filly is out of the Listed-winning Silberpfeil and a half-sister to two winners, including recent Pontefract juvenile scorer Varzi. The further family includes fellow black-type scorers Amica Nostra, In The Woods and Back At Two. Mark McStay of Avenue Bloodstock said: “She’s been bought for a group of owners to go to Paddy Twomey. Steve Weston has taken a share of her, and he also has a piece of Velozee, who came from the same farm and is by the same sire. Patrick O’Brien, a friend of Steve’s and an existing owner of Paddy’s through Magical Hope, is also involved. “She’s a lovely filly and looks fast; let’s hope she is. Sioux Nation gets a very nicely shaped individual that’s hard to walk away from. There were lots of different people interested in her so I’m delighted we got her.” Manister House Stud's Luke Barry added: “This is going to sound corny now, but I sold a filly last year that I liked a lot. It was on the back of selling her [Velozee] that I was so keen on this filly. When I saw her at the sales as a foal, she was a little bit immature in ways that allowed me to get involved. The breeder has remained part of the project too. “I’m very grateful to Mark. She had a perfect upbringing on a wonderful farm in Stanley Lodge, then came onto us. We hope she’s very lucky. She’s by a stallion on fire and had a lovely pedigree update."
